CFAN Lutheran Church Food Pantry

Our food pantry ministry began in July 2004 with a handful of church volunteers and community patrons. Prior to the pandemic, it had grown to become the largest stand-alone food pantry in the City and County of San Francisco distributing fresh produce and groceries to 500 individuals every Saturday which feeds an estimated 2500 people on a weekly basis.

The food pantry is supported by CFAN and other area Lutheran congregations and partners with the San Francisco/Marin Food Bank.

Please contact Charlotte Elliott, Pantry Coordinator, at char.elliott@aol.com or External link opens in new tab or window415-990-8931 if you would like to:

Receive food

You must register in person and in advance with current proof of residence in the 94134 zip code. Only one person per family unit may register. (Please contact your local food bank for locations in other zip codes and cities). Due to high demand there is a waiting list to participate and a waiting period after registration before participation.

Distribution is on Saturday morning between 12:00-1:30 PM The SF Food Bank will assign each participant a group color with a corresponding time slot that rotates periodically. It is best to bring a sturdy rolling cart with wheels to transport the food.

Volunteer

Drop-in volunteers are welcome but it is best to schedule in advance. Church groups, schools, and community organizations must schedule in advance. Saturday distribution volunteer hours are from 11:30-2:00 PM. and everyone is requested to help until the entire pantry is cleaned and closed. Please check with the Pantry Coordinator for age restrictions and guidelines. School community service hours are available for students with prior approval. Disruptive or uncooperative volunteers will be dismissed.

The Saturday volunteers will be assigned various tasks including but not limited to distributing food, setting up tables, clean up, registration, monitoring lines, and translating for limited English speaking patrons. First-time volunteers need to complete a brief orientation and training prior to or on the volunteer day. Occasional training is also provided to regular volunteers. Non-latex gloves may be provided. Please bring your own personal face masks or face coverings. Most other essentials will be provided (such as box cutters, towels, boxes, and bags.)

Donate

Monetary donations may be made payable to Christ for All Nations Lutheran Church. Tax-deductible receipts will be available with appropriate contact information. No church volunteers, pantry coordinators, or community volunteers are employed or compensated by CFAN or the San Francisco/Marin Food Bank.

Food donations are not accepted on site. Please bring food donations to the San Francisco/Marin Food Bank at 900 Pennsylvania Avenue, SFCA 94107.

Other programs

In past years other programs and services have been offered to the food pantry participants and the community at large including health screening, flu shots, ESL classes, children’s good news club, and children’s after school programs, exercise classes, and church events. These are open to the community in general and participation in these programs is not required to register or qualify for the Food Pantry.

CFAN Gathering: Thursdays 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM meets at church

We value gathering together during the week to share and encourage one another in our daily mission journey with Jesus. The focus of our missional gatherings is the five practices.

The five practices are effective at positioning us for enjoying people and seeking, recognizing and responding to what Jesus is doing in their lives. The five practices are:

  1. Seek the kingdom – being sensitive to the idea that God is already at work in our neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, and condos. (What is Jesus already showing me? What is He inviting me into?)

  2. Hearing from Jesus – reading the Word of God, especially the Gospels and listening to what He says and watching what He does and then asking yourself, “How does Jesus want me to respond?”

  3. Talking with People – Jesus can do more between people who are talking than He can between people who are ignoring each other.

  4. Doing Good – What you wish you could do for many do for one. Be a “blessing person” to those you encounter. What good can I do in the places I live, work or go to school?

  5. Ministering through Prayer – How can I help people by praying with them?

Are you interested in joining Jesus in his mission in your neighborhood or circle of influence among family and friends? The five daily practices put us into position to join Jesus on His mission. You are welcome to attend one of our gatherings.
